banking finance

WARNING: The content is super long and it only consists of my current thoughts and confusion.

Recently, I begin to think that being a DBF (Diploma in Banking and Financial Services) student actually teaches me a lot of things. And that a lot of things are mostly to my dislike. After having my first CRAA1 (Credit Risk Analysis and Administration1) lecture, somehow I had this perception onto banking and financial trading professions.

I think banking and financial industries people are indirectly taught to be…
1) Selfish
2) Greedy
3) Money Minded
4) Liar
5) Hypocrites

Why I said so?
Being in the banking and financial services world means you are prepared to be a hypocrite. You speak and act nicely in front of your client but the fact may be that you hate that person to the maximum and you have bad thoughts about that person.

At times, you are supposed to lie and make up stories in order to cover up and protect your company so that you won’t be struck with a bad downturn.

Money minded is definitely obvious. Most of the DBF students chose this course because they want to earn a lot of money despite of considering whether it is the right way or not.

We were taught to choose only beneficial customers in giving loans. Well, in my opinion, the reason banks give loans is to help the people who’s trying to improve their life such that they will use the money to increase their standard of living. Nevertheless, from what I understood now, banks are being choosy in having their customers. They only choose those who can provide more interests for the banks in the later days. I think this is an indirect selfish act. However, perhaps I may be wrong. Perhaps this is just the surface being taught and there’s more to discover and learn in depth in the future.

Its not that I am disgusted with the professions and neither do I hate them. It is just that, I wonder why I chose this course in the first place! There are many challenges for me. And I think this profession is of a total contradictory to my belief, conscience and principles in life. Thus, actually, somehow and somewhere deep down in my heart I am beginning to feel dissatisfaction and having a slight regret.

And I don’t know why more and more people are trying to get into this industry

In addition to that, I used to wonder why must we know and care about the politics well being. I really hate reading the politics column in the newspaper. I prefer to stay under my shell and be ignorant of what is happening to the world at the moment. I don’t like to know and see people having conflicts here and there. I hate knowing that there is a WAR happening. I don’t want to know about this country and that country is not in good terms. I don’t wish to hear those people protecting their ‘properties’ by being deceitful and even though people knows they are lying yet they choose to believe. If I were to make up my own world, I will choose to have a peace world with peace countries and peace people and peace life.

So tell me, which part of those is related to business?

And well, I just got the answer to it; the reason being is that, politic issues have the greatest impact towards the ups and downs of a country economy. Thus, even if I hate to read and to get to know such issues, now I have to slowly open up myself to actually begin reading and trying to understand all those stuffs. =(

Also, I used to think and also I think that most of the people out there mostly think that business students encounter a lot of numbers and figures. Yet, they are only partially correct. Mostly what we learn does not require any numberings. *sigh*

So, basically, if I were to really pursue in this stream, I think, eventually, I will change, and there’ll be a new me which have to fulfill the above requirement in order for me to fit in that kind of world. Do I really want to continue in this kind of life? Do I really want to become like one of them? *ponder*ponder*
